martian child

SUMMARY

A successful and a recently widowed science ficiton writer in the country John Cusack forms an unlikely family with a close friend and a young boy he adopts from the orphanege. The boy claims that he comes from Mars. He acts like he is a martian child. He takes photos all the time and he lives in a big box. He swings from the tubes. He designs plays. The writer and his sister believes that he may be really martian. However, one day the writer cannot tolerate the boys' acts. He got angry and says that he should act like the normal children as he is not a martian child. The child cannot stand and escapes from home. He climbs to a high building and he wants to go to Mars. As soon as the writer sees that the boy is not home he runs out to the building. He climbs to the barriers of the building and he tells that nobody would leave him again as his family did. He promises that he will always be with him whatever happens. Then, they come down. Afterwards, the boy starts to act like other children.

COMMENTS

The film makes me cry at the scenes that the boy is really humiliated by the other children. He is very cute and smart, but he is humiliated as he is not like the others. He does not deserve these.

Martian child is funny and dramatic as well. You can see that the boy acts like he is not living on earth. He belongs to a different category. At the same time, you watch the writer's effort to survive the boy and he is succesfull in this job.

EXPRESSIONS

David: Why did they send you here? You know, the Martians?
Dennis: To join a family and to learn human beingness.

David: I do know, there's no one on this planet that loves Dennis anymore than I do.

David: I don't want to bring another kid into this world. But how do you argue against loving one that's already here?

mr. brooks

SUMMARY

The succesful businessman and a loving father Mr. Brooks has an unusual habit which he cannot stop. He loves to kill people and takes photos of them. He has a murderous alter ago which satifsy himself, Marshall. Mr. Brook discovers that the only way to put an end to his life of crime is to kill again or die in this process. Again he kills a dancer couple and takes photos of them because he cannot escape from his ego. However, this time he is followed by a tough detective who is Tracy Atwood. She has highly professional skills. She collects the details and begins to chase him. This time Mr.Brooks thinks that there is a big problem he cannot return to his family life. Meanwhile, his daughter who is attending university, kills her boyfriend. Mr. Brooks has to erase this crime too. Finally, he returns to his family life and the detective cannot find out his murders.

COMMENTS

Mr. Brooks is a wealthy businessman, a father and a husband. However, he has a alter ago, which he cannot stop. At the end he succesfully solves this problem. This film makes the watchers take deep breaths as Mr. Brooks kills people harsly.

A man with an murderous alter ago, a woman who wants respect and love from his husband and a daugter who follows his father... Whatever goes wrong Mr. Brook has the ability to touch the truth.

Mr. Brook is a cold, and a brilliant man. Kevin Costner plays his role in a terriblly shocking way.

Detective Tracy Atwood: Jesse, you know what would make me feel really safe right now? If you got hit by a truck and died!

Mr. Earl Brooks: [talking about Jane] Well, we were right. She was hiding something.
Marshall: Pregnant's not all of it. She's hiding something, bigger. Something much bigger.
Mr. Earl Brooks: You think so?
Marshall: I know so... and so do you.

Mr. Earl Brooks:Before I was the Thumbprint Killer, Mr. Smith, I killed a lot of people in a lot of different ways.

the island

SUMMARY

The worls is under a contamination and there is an island which is free of it. The clones that are kept to be used for their organs believe that if they are lucky enough to win the lottery, they can go to island. However, clones are being kept for wealthy citizens in case they are ill or need an organ transplation. Thus, the clones are killed for the sake of the wealthy people, but the clones can feel, think and live like real humans. Two clones who discover that they are going to death instead of the beautiful island move on and escape from the Utopian centre to the real world. Their aim is to wake the other clones up, so they can all act against the"lottery".

COMMENTS

The island seems well designed for the clones who are unaware of the hazard they face. It is rather glommy to die if you wonder a better life. However, two clones are ready to fight for their life. This movie is worth to watch.

Think of a life that you are about to die but you survive thanks to clones. The clones are as same as the real ones and they are used just like materials. Is it really fair?

The film has a plot which makes you think whether there could be a life like that in the future. Science could be so developed to produce clones so as to serve human beings. At some scenes, especially when you see that the clones are cut and used like materials you cannot accept this unequaliance. However, they are just clones and even if they feel like humans they are to be killed. This unacceptable issue is bound to be argued.

McCord: The life you thought you had... it never happened.

Lincoln Six-Echo: I think they're going to kill you.

the nanny diaries

SUMMARY

Annie who is college graduate student goes to the job interview. However, she cannot define" Who is Annie?". Then , she meets with a child while she is sitting in a central park. She rescues the child from being hit by a man. His mother arrives and invites Annie to be her child's nanny. Annie finds herself in the other side of the city. She is the nanny of a clever and a naughty child. By the way, she has to help Mrs. X. She has to do her shopping, go to the nanny parties and nanny commodities. By the way, she accidentaly falls in love with a boy in the apartment, which is not appropriate for a nanny. She no longer bears to Mrs. X and Mr. X. and cannot keep the secret of the boyfriend. After the dicovery of her boyfriend. she is fired with a little money. She is furious and after returning the house to pack her clothes, she finds the nanny cam and gives a long speech. She quits and returns to the study of Antropology. Mrs. X who finds something precious in nanny's speech writes a letter to Annie. She says that she finds the core of her living: her son. She is divorced too.

COMMENTS

In the movie one can find the answer of what should be I am and what is really I am. Annie searches for the answer of the question by the way she desparetely works for Mrs. X. At the end she gives a lesson to the family. She takes her lesson as well: Every lie are to be identified.

After seeing the wealth and greed of Mr.X, you may want to have a marriage like that, but take look inside: the father betrays his wife. The wife discovers that but does nothing. The child is left without the interest, love and care of his family... I do not want a life like that even you have many opportunities.

Bringing up a child has many responsibilities. The family has to share it 50-50. Or else, it could be a disaster to raise a child.

One should discover oneself before it is too late. Thus, one should live it without postponing.

EXPRESSIONS

Annie:In Africa they have the saying, it takes a village to raise a child. But for the tribe of the upper-eastside of Manhattan, it takes just one person. The nanny.

Annie:My desire to be an observer of life was actually keeping me from having one.

Annie: There's a common belief among anthropologists that you must immerse yourself in an unfamiliar world in order to truly understand your own.

skeleton key

SUMMARY

Caroline is a young and a beautiful nurse who has a bad past with her father. Her father was ill and she could not has the chance to take care of him. Thus, she agrees with the job to take care of an elderly man in New Orleans. However, she can see that there is something hidden behind the illness of the man. His wife keeps something in the attic and she behaves cold. Caroline decides to break the code in the house. She finds a skeleton key of the room in the attic and she discovers hair, blood, spells and bones which are the signs of Hoodoo. The wife says that they are all belong to original owners of the house. Caroline cannot stand long to make Hoodoo as the old man keeps murmuring something that is related with this room and this Hoodoo thing. However, if Caroline believes what she does, it will be real.

COMMENTS

I got horrified to see the end of the film as it was surprising. At first, you get little bit anxious to see what is in the attic. By the way, the old man rises the tension and you want Caroline to discover that spell. However, things will not get better for Caroline.

Do you believe in spell? Especially, after watching this movie you will not wish to see an African because you may suppose it is a magician.

This movie claims that what you believe may become real if you believe it, even it is not real originally.

EXPRESSIONS

Caroline:I saw the room.
Violet:What room?
Caroline:The room you said you've never seen.

Caroline:I thought the key opens everything.
Violet:The key? What key?
Caroline:The key you gave me for the house. There is a door in the attic it doesn't work for. Violet:Oh, the attic, it's never opened that.
